Stick thin may no longer be what is considered attractive in females. According to a Debenhams representative, "It looks like big busts, big hips and narrow waists are on their way back." Debenhams is a high fashion retailer in England. Now doesn't this just make every girl a tad more confused? On one hand we have people saying that beauty in is the eyes of the beholder, but on the other hand we can claim that the definition of beauty s changing. I hope you reading this are just as confused as I am.
So everyone has a different "type" of the opposite sex at which they would call good-looking, but as much as my taste differs from my roommate's, there are some similarities. it's also smart to remember that there are exceptions to all rules, and beauty is definitely one of them.
Females, though pressures to be stick thin by the media and peers, are seen as most attractive when then have a proportional figure. That means a size 2 or a size 14! The proportions go as follows bust= eight inches larger than the waist and hips= ten inches larger than the waist. Even Barbie doesn't fit those measurements, so dont fret.
Males, it appears that women aren't as picky. Females are attracted to the "v" shape that usually coincide with broad shoulders.
No matter how we try to say that beauty has no definition, there is one. But there is also the option of forming your own opinion on the matter and not just jumping on the media bandwagon.
I should also mention that beauty isn't only defines by body shape. Without paint, the Mona LIsa, is still a boring canvas. Attractiveness is defined by confidence and how well you present yourself. Smile. Stand up straight. Be Confident. Be beautiful on the inside and out.
I remember reading somewhere that in the past, this big busted, shapely figure was the typical hollywood actress. Back in the days when Marilyn Monroe was famous for her curves, not a stick thin frame. With famous women such as Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian being proud of their more shapely famous, curves may be making a comeback. Clothing, hairstyles, and makeup trends change dramatically from year to year and decade to decade, so why not the ideal body type?
ReplyDeleteI definitely see the definition of beauty changing. You can see this through Dove Body Product's Real Beauty campaign. They take everyday women of all different shapes and body types and use them in their ads and commercials. They are showing that beauty can be found not just in celebrities but in all people. Its nice seeing body sizes that can be related in beauty ads instead of an unreachable "perfect" body image.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense that a proportional figure is considered attractive. Its weird that in the old days being larger than average was a sign of wealth and skinny meant you were poor and couldn't afford a lot of food. I like that celebrities like Kim Kardashian are becoming more popular and promoting to accept their body how it is. It seems contradictory that she is the face of quick trim products though..
ReplyDeleteI commend celebrities like Kim K, Khloe Kardashian-Odom, and Beyonce. These women are accepting their curves and they are all beautiful in their own individual way. I personally think all shapes and sizes are beautiful. Different sizes and shapes make up the world and diversify it. If everyone looked alike with the same body type our world would be boring and beauty would be a lot less simpler. Society wants us to be one way, but in reality we are all different and special in our own way. Beauty isn't just about the shell its about the person as a whole, inside and outside. Thanks to curvy celebrities all shapes and kinds of beauty are becoming reality.
